Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park

If you are looking for a family-friendly park in the Northeast section of Austin, Texas, you should check out Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park. This 293-acre park offers hiking trails, multiple softball fields, swimming pools, a playground, and numerous picnic tables and barbecue pits. The “Pool Lot Trail” in Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is being constructed during construction. The construction crews will be installing tree protection near North Lamar Boulevard, doing erosion control around the trail, and laying foundations for boardwalks and bridges. When completed, the trail system will stretch over 19 miles and connect Govalle Neighborhood Park in the east with Balcones District Park in the north.

Visitors are required to follow designated trails while enjoying the preserve. Visitors can drive up to the park on weekdays, but on weekends and holidays, reservations are required. A picnic is the perfect way to end a day of exploring the beautiful park. Food trucks are popular in Austin, and there are several parks that serve delicious food. Most food trucks have picnic tables in them and serve different ethnic dishes. Those who enjoy food trucks will be happy to know that there are several nearby eateries.

Besides the park, the museum has many other attractions worth checking out. The Thinkery children’s museum has many interactive exhibits and programs that can help children learn about nature. There is also the Tiny Tails to You animal experience and Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum, which showcases works of art by Charles Umlauf. While a trip to Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park is not complete without checking out the museums, you can always take the kids to the nearby Lake Austin.

If you’re a history buff, you’ll want to check out the 360 bridge. This historic landmark, located on North Congress, is worth the 10 minute hike. There’s also a statue of Angelina Eberly, a Texan who famously fired a cannon at thieves in the 1800s. A bronze statue of this hero was erected here in 2004.

The Bastrop County Complex trail has historical sections and a paleolithic-themed archaeological park. This scenic path connects half a dozen parks and offers swimming, rock climbing, and kayaking. There are also several other areas where you can engage in sports activities, such as fishing, swimming, and rock climbing. You’ll also find a number of opportunities for water recreation in the region, including hiking and biking.

While visiting the area, make sure to spend time in the Sixth Street District. This historic section of Austin is full of attractions and is the place to stay for live music and a bohemian vibe.
